DH FISHING |
As you will have seen from the Happy New Year post, i had a couple of days on the canal midweek, which proved difficult. So with a rise in temperatures and some big winds forecast i felt it might fish a little better this weekend. Plus i was going to go armed with liquidised bread and offer them a little bit of punch to see if it tickled their fancy. Arrived waterside for about 8:45am and noticed it looked to have a tinge more colour in and whilst setting up i'd seen a couple of roach top, so i was feeling a little bit more optimistic. I decided to fish 3 lines on the pole, two at about 9m and 6.5m straight out infront of me and one just to the side on the edge of the track close in at about 5.5m. After cupping in small balls of bread on each line the first bite came on my near line, pretty quickly, which was a good sign as that was more i'd managed all day on Tuesday and even though i caught on Wednesday i had to wait much longer. Once the swims had settled, the line to the side and long line were producing the bites, so i concentrated on them and kept bites coming most runs through, although i had periods where they were difficult to hit. In the end i had around 30 fish, all Roach, most up to 2oz, but did managed 3 or 4 better ones at 4-5ozs.
With going a bit Carp mad over the past couple of years and not going near the Canal really, it was nice to be back on the very area where it all began, reminscing about some quality catches i'd had from the cut back in the early days. It's safe to say i'll not be neglecting it as much from here on in. Variety is the spice of life as they say! Tight Lines, Dan
